WALT DISNEY STUDIO
Winnie the Pooh on the Way to School (1980)
original matching animation cel and background paintings
gouache on untrimmed animation cel sheet, opaque watercolor on untrimmed 12.5" x 16" background sheet and cel overlay, image size: 9.5" x 12.5"
In the 1970s80s the Walt Disney Educational Media Company produced a series of narrated film strips for schools featuring the characters from the studio's popular Winnie the Pooh animated films based on the stories of A.A. Milne. (A second series featured Alice in Wonderland characters.) Here Tigger has apparently wandered into a construction site and encountered one of the many hazards there. The art was created in much the same way as that for animated films: a background painting with line overlay (for definition) and cel painting of characters on 12.5" x 16" sheets with the studio registration holes along the bottom.
This original hand-painted cel of Tigger and its matching background painting and line overlay were created in the Disney Studio and photographed during the making of the filmstrip. Handwritten production notes appear along the bottom of the sheets: "#5 CL28" on the background painting and overlay, "#5 FR29 BG28" on the cel. Our certificate of authenticity is included.
VERY FINE+ condition.
